Overview: Aging Face Surgery: Facelift

Aging Face Surgery Facelift

A facelift**, or rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to address visible signs of aging in the face and neck by tightening skin, repositioning facial fat and muscles, and improving overall contour.

Goals of a Facelift:

  • Reduce sagging in the midface, jawline, and neck
  • Smooth deep creases (nasolabial folds, marionette lines)
  • Remove or tighten excess skin
  • Improve jowls and restore youthful facial contours

Types of Facelifts

  1. Traditional (Full) Facelift:  Involves incisions around the ears and hairline; deeper tissues (SMAS) are lifted and tightened- Midface, jowls, neck
  2. Mini Facelift: Less invasive with shorter incisions; quicker recovery – Early signs of aging, jawline
  3. Mid-Facelift: Focuses on cheeks and lower eyelids – Midface only
  4. Neck Lift: Often done with a facelift; tightens sagging skin and muscle in the neck – Neck, under-chin area
  5. Deep Plane Facelift: Advanced technique that lifts beneath the muscle layer (SMAS and platysma) – Natural, longer-lasting results
