Overview: Meniscal Tears

PAIN MANAGEMENT CENTER

Meniscal tears are common knee injuries where one or both of the crescent-shaped cartilage pads (menisci) in the knee are damaged. These tears often result from a sudden twist or impact, though they can also occur gradually due to age-related wear and tear. Symptoms typically include pain, swelling, stiffness, and difficulty moving the knee. In some cases, a “locking” or “catching” sensation may be felt. Treatment can range from rest and physical therapy to surgical intervention, depending on the severity and location of the tear. Prompt diagnosis and appropriate management are crucial for a full recovery and to prevent long-term joint damage.
