Overview: Otoplasty Surgery

Otoplasty Surgery

Otoplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape, reposition, or resize the ears, commonly performed to correct ears that stick out too far (protruding ears) or have congenital deformities. It can dramatically improve facial balance and self-esteem, especially in children and teens—but is also increasingly sought by adults.

What Otoplasty Treats:

  • Protruding ears (ears that stick out from the head)
  • Overly large ears (macrotia)
  • Misshapen ears due to injury or congenital issues
  • Asymmetry or previous surgical corrections

Types of Otoplasty

  1. Ear Pinning (Traditional Otoplasty):  Pulls the ears closer to the head by reshaping or folding cartilage
  2. Cartilage Scoring/Suturing: Techniques to reshape cartilage using incisions (scoring) or internal sutures (suture-only method)
  3. Reconstructive Otoplasty: Rebuilds missing or damaged ear parts (e.g., microtia repair or after trauma)
