Kinga Powers, MD PhD FACS, is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. She has 18 years of experience caring for patients requiring advanced surgical laparoscopic, robotic and endoscopic care for gastrointestinal (eg. gallbladder disease) and gastroesophageal diseases (eg. gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatal hernia, esophageal motility disorders), weight loss (eg. bariatric surgery and weight loss medications) and complex hernia management (eg. robotic inguinal hernia repair, umbilical hernia and complex abdominal wall hernia repair).

Dr. Powers practiced in Virginia before moving to New York in 2020 where she joined and remains on the academic faculty of Stony Brook University and subsequently joined her partners at Long Island Surgical PLLC to continue her high-volume clinical practice. Her medical training started with her MD degree at Queen’s University, Canada, followed by her general surgery residency and concurrent Ph.D. at the University of Toronto, and culminated with advanced-minimally invasive, foregut and bariatric surgery fellowship at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School.

She is dedicated to serving her surgical community with her roles as the Chair of the Publications Committee for The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and a member of The Fundamental Use of Surgical Energy (FUSE) and Acute Care Task Force Committees at SAGES. She was elected President of the Virginia chapter of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) in 2016-2018 and currently serves on the ASMBS Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee establishing evidence-based clinical pathways for surgeons and hospital systems. Her past roles included being the ASMBS Virginia Chapter Treasurer and Vice President. She is currently serving as an elected Board Member of the NY chapter of the ASMBS and is the program chair for the NY state chapter’s annual meetings.

Dr. Powers is dedicated to helping individual patients achieve their personal health and lifestyle goals using advanced technologies and focuses on safe and compassionate care. She is a strong believer in being approachable and available for her patients.
