Lisa Eng, D. O. is proud to have lived the American dream of being an immigrant from Hong Kong whose parents were proudly hard-working blue collar workers and came from very humble beginnings. She is Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology. She received her medical degree from NY College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1990. Her osteopathic rotating internship and residency in obstetrics & gynecology were completed at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Eng has been in private practice since 1995 and is the owner of New Life Medical Esthetics and Wellness and The Birthing Center of New York. This is the 1st birthing center owned by a Chinese physician in the country. She has a diverse private practice and has been working in the underserved neighborhoods of the Lower East Side and Sunset Park Brooklyn. She and her colleagues speak Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Toishanese, Russian and Arabic and her associates well reflect our neighbors in the community. The addition of the free- standing birthing center in Brooklyn “The Birthing Center of NY” enabled New Life to offer a culturally competent safe space for appropriate low risk pregnancies to women. The Birthing Center offers an additional choice and continuity of care from our office to the birthing center or to the hospital if that is what they choose or are eligible for. Education is also offered to our community on prepared childbirth, lactation, newborn care, Basic Life Support and postpartum recovery/family planning.
She has also served as Chair of the Board of Trustees and as President of the Medical Society of the County of Kings. She has served as President of the Association of Chinese American Physicians (ACAP), Chinese Community Accountable Care Organization (CCACO), Medical Society of Bay Ridge, Doctors First Association-Risk Retention Group and Brooklyn Gynecological Society. She has been Vice President of the Medical Staff at Lutheran Medical Center and was Vice Chair-woman of the Board of Trustees for Homecrest Community Services – a senior day care center in Gravesend and Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. She has served as Chair of the American College of Obstetrician and Gynecologists (ACOG) Section 2, District II, Chair of Committee on Public Health for Medical Society of County of Kings, Chair of the Task Force for Cultural Competency for ACOG/District II (she received ACOG District Recognition Award for her work creating a symposium and presenting it District wide), is a member of the Medical Society of the State of New York’s Committee on Health Equity. She is also co-chair for the Scope of Practice Committee of MSSNY to address allied health professionals and their role in healthcare team. She has received the District Community Service Award for ACOG District II, named one of Brooklyn’s Extraordinary Women by Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes and received a Community Service Award from Manhattan Borough President Stringer, received a Community Service Award from Association of Chinese United Society (ACUS), received a Community Service Award from the Asian Pacific Islander Center for HIV/AIDS (APICHA) and Community Award from State Senator Martin Golden during Women’s History Month. Most recently she has received recognition from Crain’s “Most Notable in Healthcare” 2021. Medical student and resident education is a passion of hers and she has received the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) twice and the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) as well.

Chaired the Utilization Management committee and changed the manner which we look at denial and case management, billing companies required to report at meetings. Increased the number of approved residency slots by obtaining affiliate agreement with outside institution. Obtained grant for 2+ million dollar NYS DOH Maternal and Infant Community Health Collaborative to improve maternal and infant health outcomes for high-need women and families in targeted communities to reduce racial, ethnic and economic disparities in outcomes. Specifically preterm birth, low birth weight, infant mortality and maternal mortality rates through evidence-based and/or best practice strategies across the reproductive life course.

- Homecrest Community Services, Board of Directors, Vice Chair January 2005 – August 2012 Meet with Commissioners and elected officials, community organizations to seek out grant and funding opportunities; assist with annual health fair attended by 1000 senior citizens, Homecrest is a 2000+ member Senior Day Care Center with two locations in Bensonhurst and Gravesend Brooklyn.
- Association of Chinese American Physicians, President May 2010 – May 2012 As chair of Community Outreach and Scientific Committees since 2005, I met with Chinese and English press, legislators, community organizations in Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn Suffolk and Nassau Counties regarding issues related to Chinese physicians and Chinese patients. Organized fund-raising for Earthquake Relief in Sichuan Province with North Shore University Medical Center, New York Hospital Queens, SUNY Levin Institute, World Journal, Asian Bar Association of NY. I created the bi-annual Practice Management Seminar attended by ACAP members as well as MSSNY, NYSOMS, Bay Ridge Medical Society and MSCQ/K members, furthering the knowledge of physicians about matters related to the business of practicing medicine; e.g. coding billing, medical malpractice, regulations, legislation, risk retention groups, Accountable Care Organizations, IPA, Clinically integrated Organizations, etc. I brought the State Medical Society together with other ethnic Asian groups, e.g. Myanmar American Medical Education Society, Philippine Chinese American Medical Society, Indochinese-Sino-American Community Center, and Asian Pacific Islander Center for HIV/AIDS. We worked closely with American Cancer Society, Eastern Division to promote cancer screening in this much underserved group. We participated in the creation of a position paper for the OMH in concert with NCAPIP (National Coalition of API Physicians) to delay punitive measures by ACA for doctors caring for LEP until EMR’s are able to address the multiple language needs of our patients.
